Rapport Work Colleagues Build Tasks

Building rapport with your colleagues not only helps you feel happier and makes your work day easier, it can also help you progress in the company. Your colleagues may be of different ages and backgrounds to you but you can still find some common ground and learn to get along with each other. Being willing to make the tea and help them out when they need it will them more likely to put a good word in for you or help you out of a sticky situation.

Find Common Ground

You may not enjoy the same music or have the same taste in clothes, but you can always find something in common with your colleagues. Whether it is a shared moan about the weather or a liking for the same chocolate, finding similarities with them will help them see you as more than just the new one at work. Listen to what they say and pick up on anything that you can share.

Remember Things About Them

People love to think that you are interested in what they have to say so make an effort to listen to your colleagues. Pick up on aspects of their lives such as the names of their children, or what they are doing at the weekend and bring it up in conversation at a later date. This will make them feel that you are paying attention and help to build up a rapport.

Make A Cup Of Tea

It’s a simple thing, a couple of tea, but the gesture can go a long way. By mucking in and helping out with menial, every day tasks in the office, you will show you are a nice, down to earth person. Doing a nice thing for someone automatically builds a rapport and taking your turn shows that you are part of the team. Going round to people to ask them if they want tea also helps introduce yourself in a casual way and gives a good excuse to strike up a conversation.

Help Them Out

Nobody likes someone better than when they are helping them out. Whether it is taking a call they don’t want to take, doing some filing or picking up their lunch, actions speak louder than words. Help to build a rapport with your colleagues by being eager to help and making their day’s work a little easier. Then, when you are in need of some help your colleagues will be much more willing to make an effort for you.

It is difficult being the new person in town and trying to build a rapport with your colleagues will help you settle into work quicker. By finding some common ground and remembering details about them, you will be able to form a relationship with them. Offering to make the tea is a great way to meet everyone in the office and will also show that you are willing to muck in and help out. Helping out your colleagues is a surefire way to build an instant rapport.
